The hinterland of Bruges is an area brimming with history, known for its unique scenery, lush greenery and serene and peaceful settings and timeless villages. On September 19th we visited one of its great gardens in Oedelem and a fairytale neo-gothic castle in Loppem

Thank you again for organising yesterday’s NTAB event. As usual, everything was perfect: warm welcome with coffee and pastry, pleasant walk in the superb garden, excellent lunch and interesting visit of Loppem castle, all of this in fine weather. A memorable day in good company.

A big thank you to André for organizing such a fascinating day out in & around Oostkamp. First, a beautiful Prairie-style garden inspired by the great Piet Oudolf, & owned by garden designer Chris Ghyselen, who gave us an instructive tour with many amusing anecdotes. A delicious lunch at “Ten Voute” run by a young couple – table service provided not only by Mevrouw but also by Grandad & their pretty, little blonde daughter!
Then a short walk to crazy, Gothic Loppem Castle, the colourful interior a real feast for the eyes. The van Caloen family history the Castle’s brief moment in history hosting King Albert, Queen Elizabeth & all political party leaders after WWI was very interesting. How wonderful that the Castle & its contents have been preserved intact for posterity.
