Gors-op-Leeuw and Vliermaal

Since 1 January 2025, Gors-op-Leeuw is part of the new municipality of Tongeren-Borgloon; Vliermaal was part of Kortessem but has recently become part of the city of Hasselt.

Highlights of the day:

Castle of Gors-op-Leeuw: a privately owned and totally renovated manor. Not open to the public. Guided tour by the owner. Website: www.kasteelgors.be

Square farmhouse Renard (Vliermaal): The square farmhouse of the family Renard dates back to 1888. It’s in the middle of the center of the village of Vliermaal. The farmhouse has been aquired by the Nationale Boomgaardenstichting in 2020 and has only been open to the public on a few occasions. We will visit the main house which has never been open to the public and dates back to 1888. It has been left in its present state in the 1940-ies. In the square farmhouse we will also find a place to cool and preserve fruits (mostly apples and pears) which is unique in Flanders. We will end our visit with a tradional Limburg fruit pie (Limburgse fruitvlaai), recently recognised as a EU regional product. Website: Nationale Fruittentoonstelling en Open Monumentendag  or www.boomgaardenstichting.be

Optional visit at the end of the day: Domein Schorpion (Vliermaal): often voted to be the best méthode traditionelle in Belgium. Visit of the winery, cellars and tasting of two different métodes traditionelles (10 €, not included in the day price)  Website:www.schorpion.com
