Workhouse & vagrant community at Merksplas / Wortel

Those who took part in our 2024 UK trip will remember our visit to the Southwell Workhouse, the way poverty and homelessness were dealt with in 19th-C England. In the same period a similar system was established in the United Netherlands (current BeNeLux) as well.

Chinese Pavillion and Royal Greenhouses, Laken

On 8 May we we'll visit the Royal Greenhouses at Laeken. After visiting the flower show, we will walk to the Chinese Pavillion, a remarkable building which was transferred from the Paris World Exhibition in 1900 by King Leopold II and where restoration work is ongoing.
